Grants & Financial Aid - information
It costs $ to go to school. Not everyone gets a music scholarship, and not every scholarship is enough to cover tuition and other costs. It pays to invest some time in see what is available in scholarships and other financial aid, even after you begin school at UI and the time is past to apply for incoming freshman scholarships.
For instance, for returning undergrads, The College of Liberal Arts & Sciences awarded up to 43 scholarships collectively worth over $112,000 to students continuing in the College last year. Twenty-eight of these scholarships are open to all liberal arts and sciences students and fifteen are for select liberal arts and sciences majors. Find out more here.
The UI Horn Studio is able to offer small grants to current students for the purposes of attending horn workshops, competitions, or auditions, thanks to the generosity of Horn Studio "angels" Allen Meyers and Marina Miller. Grad students who present at symposia can apply for travel funds from the School of Music.

Grant Info:
Grants are awarded for special projects, usually those of special interest to the grant sponsor. All you need is a convincing project proposal and the moxie, energy, and ambition to carry it out. The first grant can be the most difficult to get - start small. Every grant you get makes it easier for you to get the next grant - you have a track record and that pleases grant foundations. Below are some possibilities (all types of grants, not just specifically music grants). Let us know about others that you uncover so that we can post them here. Besides supplying welcome financial help, grants look great on your CV - grad schools and future employers are attracted to those who can get grants.

ECGPS - Executive Council of Graduate & Professional Students - to fund original research, offset costs of professional development travel and participation.
