Transportation on Campus, around town, to and from the area
The closest airport is the Eastern Iowa Airport in Cedar Rapids, about 15 miles to the northwest via Interstate 380.
Cheaper fares can be found at the Quad Cities International Airport in Moline, IL, but it’s about an hour and fifteen minute drive from Iowa City.
If you live far from campus, you may need a car, and finding parking can be difficult and costly (spots are available in the Hancher commuter lot, but after commuters, they are only available on a first-come, first-served basis). Check out the area bus systems as another option.
Cambus (University Bus Service) - "Fastest way to travel the campus - and it's free!"
Hours: 6:30 a.m. to mdnight, M-F, noon to midnight on weekends.
Limited operation during breaks and summer sessions; no service on university holidays.
SafeRide Fri/Sat. 11:55 pm to 2:12 a.m.
Nite Ride (319-384-1111) - safe late night transportation for women only, 10:00 pm to 3:00 a.m. See route map.
ZipCar - need car now and then? ZipCar lets you rent a car by the hour (ca. $8/hr plus a $25 yearly subscription fee), which is way cheaper than owning a car. Gas & insurance included. There are 3 ZipCar locations in Iowa City: near the medical school, near the Iowa City Public Library, and near Burge residence hall.
